Creating a Facebook Group
Facebook is an excellent tool to help your Small Group Members connect outside of regular group meetings. Facebook allows you to share photos, videos, documents, messaging, etc. in a very familiar format (for most people.)
1. Login to your Facebook account, or create a free Facebook account.
2. Click on “More” on the left column to display all of your Facebook Groups.
3. Click on “Create Group …”
4. Enter a name for your Facebook Group.
5. Select whether you want your Facebook Group to be open, closed, or secret.
It is recommended you select Secret for your Small Group. This ensures that if someone share personal information in a prayer request, etc., no one but members of your Small Group will see the post.
6. Add the members of your Small Group to your new Facebook Group.
Members must have a Facebook account in order to be a part of your Facebook Group, and they must be in your circle of friends on Facebook.
What is the difference between a Facebook Group and a Facebook Page?
A Facebook “Page” (not to be confused with “Profile”) is designed for business or official representations of organizations or people. Facebook users are able to “Like” a Page and that Page is then indicated on their Profile as an organization that they Like. There is no limit on Likes and no approval required.
A Facebook Group is for people or an organization and allows you to “Join”. Groups can be invite-only or open.
The key feature a Facebook Group offers over a Facebook Page for a small group is the ability to make a Group secret, which gives the group members much greater privacy and leaders much more control over who can and cannot join the group.
